DR. BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH CENTRE
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was one of the most eminent alumnus of the University of Mumbai and served this institution (University of Mumbai) in various capacities as a student initially, and then as a Professor in Sydenham College, and later as Principal, Government Law College. He has contributed immensely to the growth and development and policy making not only for the nation, but also for the University of Mumbai, in the capacity of the Member of Senate of the University.
The University had started Dr. Ambedkar Centre for Social Justice in 2005-06 in the University of Mumbai’s J.P Naik Bhavan, Kalina Campus, Vidyanagari, Santacurz (E). Establishing a new Centre all together would have meant duplication of mandate, instead, the scope of the existing Centre was enlarged and upgraded as the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Research Centre in April, 2021. Thereafter, the Centre was renamed “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Research Centre” which is an independent Centre in the University of Mumbai.
The Centre functions as a repository of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s writings and research. The Centre plays a very important role by offering inclusive education beyond the regular stream of knowledge by offering courses in Ambedkar Thoughts, course on Indian Economic and Political Thinkers, Political Economy of India, Constitution of India, Caste and Religions in India, Social work, Research in social sciences, Development Studies, and Public Policy

Sr. Professor (Dr.) W. K. Sarwade is a senior academic leader with more than three and a half decades of experience in higher education, research, and university governance. His career reflects excellence in teaching, institutional leadership, academic administration, research mentorship, and international academic collaboration in the fields of Economics, Rural Development, International Business, Commerce, Management, International Business, and Tourism Administration.

Sr. Prof. Sarwade W. K. has served the higher education system in several prestigious leadership roles, including Pro Vice Chancellor, Head of the Department of Commerce, Director of the Department of Management Science, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management, Director of the Board of College and University Development (BCUD – OSD), Controller of Examinations, Director of Student Welfare, Member of the Management Council, Senate & Academic Council, President of the Indian Commerce Association, and Member of the NEP 2020 Steering Committee, Government of Maharashtra.
Through these positions, he has actively contributed to academic reforms, curriculum development, examination governance, institutional planning, research promotion, and student welfare systems at the university level.

Sr. Prof. Sarwade brings over 37 years of teaching and research experience across undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes in Economics, Rural Development, Phule Ambedkar Thoughts, Tourism Administration, Commerce, and Management disciplines. His academic approach integrates theoretical rigor with practical business applications, preparing students for professional and research careers.
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE & CONTRIBUTIONS
With more than 37 years of continuous research involvement, Sr. Prof. Sarwade W. K. has published and presented over 160 research papers at international, national, and state levels. He has also served as a resource person in more than 290 academic and professional programmes, contributing significantly to faculty development and academic enrichment initiatives.
He has successfully completed six minor and two major research projects and has been granted two patents, addressing contemporary issues in Management, Rural Economics, Managerial Economics, Tourism Administration, International Business, Commerce, Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development.
RESEARCH GUIDANCE & SUPERVISION
Sr. Prof. Sarwade W. K. has guided 49 Ph.D. scholars who have been awarded doctoral degrees, with several others currently pursuing research under his supervision. He has also mentored more than 66 M.Phil. scholars, demonstrating his strong commitment to developing future researchers and academicians.

SYLLABUS DESIGN & CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
Sr. Professor Sarwade W. K. has served as a Board of Studies member across twenty-two universities, playing a key role in academic planning, curriculum formulation, and periodic syllabus revision. He has been actively involved in designing outcome-based curricula, modernizing academic frameworks, and initiating new academic programmes at the university level, aligned with contemporary industry and research requirements.
In addition to curriculum development, he was also a member of the Steering Committee constituted for framing the implementation framework of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for the State of Maharashtra, contributing to strategic academic planning and policy formulation for higher education reforms.
